Come on Yankees, Clinch already!!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on September 22, 2009 by maryann2008

How long do Yankee fans have to wait for them to clinch their playoff spot.  Luckily Boston lost last night.  Otherwise, they’d only be 4 games out of first place.  This is getting way too close and way too uncomfortable.

And… how can we be totally defeated against the Angels in their house!!!  What the heck??!!  Come on Yanks, let’s take the next 2……….   and I’m not afraid to get on my knees and beg.  While I’m at it, let’s get CC Sabathia his 20 wins and Cy Young trophy!!

Palin versus Biden – Do we want either to be President?

Posted in Speak for Yourself, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on August 30, 2008 by maryann2008

Well, here we are at day 2 after the big announcement.  Sarah “Barracuda” Palin has been analyzed, digested and spit out.  What have we discovered?  Fisher”wo”men, gun afficianado, mother of 5, basketball star, journalism and political science graduate from University of Idaho, pro-life, son being deployed to Iraq on September 11th and another with Downs Syndrome.  Let’s not forget, married her high school sweetheart.  The experts have call this move moronic and brilliant at the same time.  Can a 44 year old woman be qualified to run this country as President, if necessary?  Can she stand toe-to-toe in debate against Joe Biden?  John McCain seems to think so.  But really, are we now going to be talking about an Obama versus McCain and Palin versus Biden election.  Or is it turning into an Obama versus Palin election.  America is just about to come off of 8 years of cartoon politics under the thumb of George W. Bush.  At this point, I think Donald Duck could run America more successfully.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, substitute for Hillary Clinton??

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on August 29, 2008 by maryann2008

Is John McCain serious about this?  Is this the result of the pollsters out there??  Do they really think that we can replace Hillary Clinton with another younger, pretty face.  In case you haven’t heard, John McCain has selected Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska as his Vice Presidential selection today.  I keep searching to find some information about her, but the only thing that sticks out is “soccer mom” and the controversy over her ex-brother-in-law.  So much for blasting Obama for the “lack of experience”.  What type of experience is Palin coming in with??  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Beijing Olympics 2008 – Nastia Liukin versus China in tie

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 19, 2008 by maryann2008

I would have never called myself an avid fan of the Olympics.  Yet, time after time, whether Summer or Winter I find myself watching.  As Jim McKay used to say, “The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat”.  Watching Michael Phelps and his quest for 8 gold medals was amazing.  Watching marathon runners and track runners and synchronized divers, again incredible.  Then we move to the gymnastics or maybe we should call them the “chinese connection”.  Nevertheless, the tragedy of the scoring of the uneven bars between Nastia Liukin and He Kexin was beyond words.  The Olympic Committee should spend a little more time with the computer programmers and statisticians before they decide how the programs that calculate scoring should be written.  When you have a tie and you begin removing scores, why would you remove the lowest scores on the 2nd round.  By removing China’s He Kexin’s lowest score, it also removed a low score that was lower that U.S.’s Nastia Liukin’s lowest score and the tie went to China.  Maybe some human scoring should have intervened after the first round of calculations.  Or better yet, if a tie after the first round of calculations, award the gold medal to both athletes.  Come on Olympic Committee, get your act together!  As for China’s He Kexin, not bad for a 14 year old!

Alex Rodriguez Yankeeography???

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on August 8, 2008 by maryann2008

Are you kidding me????  Are the Yankees just making sure they don’t miss the opportunity to be on Arod’s guest list in case he really becomes a star.  Although, chances are he will forget to invite them to the party.  For the sake of somebody, anybody – this man is a head case!!!  He may beat the home run records of the greats (and phony greats **Thank you Barry Bonds), but ssssoooo wwwhhhaattt!!!!  Any time there is any type of need for him to really step up to the plate, he hardly ever delivers!  Strike out after strike out, the good old infield pop up and don’t forget the latest fad for him – bouncing into yet another double play.  Ugh!  Somebody better slap the silly out of this guy.  I would hate for him to have less than 100 RBI’s in the same year his Yankeeography came out.  And this is bound to happen if he only gets them 1 at a time with his empty base home runs.  So far he appears to be 0-2 on team playing, whether it be on the field or at home.

Same Sex Marriage – If At Once Invalid, Try, Try Again!

Posted in Speak for Yourself, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on June 6, 2008 by maryann2008

Kudos to Ellen DeGeneres and George Takei for jumping at their chance to walk down the aisle.  But it appears that Rosie O’Donnell isn’t up for taking the plunge again.  Rosie and her girlfrient, Kelli were married 4 years ago when the mayor of San Francisco performed same-sex marriages.  Unfortunately, the California Court later declared those marriages invalid.  But their back!  The California Court has ruled that denying these same-sex marriages was discrimination.  So on June 17, 2008, a chance to marry is back on again.  While I understand Rosie’s reluctance, deep down I have a problem with it.  From the moment my partner and I were married, we spoke about the possibility of going to Canada if ever our Massachusetts marriage was deemed invalid.  Yet, it’s 4 years later and we are still married!  While this country is ramping up the momentum to make progress, will it be in Rosie’s lifetime.  I don’t know.  If it were me, I wouldn’t take that chance.  In any event, it’s their decision.  But if it were me and it was deemed invalid, I would try and try again!
